And a Nightingale sang in Shackerstone ‘square’ for mayor’s civic sign-off
HINCKLEY and Bosworth mayor Martin Cartwright effectively brought down the curtain on his official year of office – with a little ‘help’ from his friends.
The district’s number one citizen invited public figures from across Leicestershire and Warwickshire to his civic dinner.
Civic dignatories included Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire, Lady Gretton; Leicestershire County Council chairman Peter Lewis; Nuneaton and Bedworth mayor John Haynes and his mayoress wife, Hilda, as well as Major David Rook from the Queen’s Gurkha Signals at Gamecock Barracks, Bramcote.
Nearly 50 guests attending the event at the Help Out Mill restaurant in Shackerstone were treated to a sumptuous three-course meal and an evening of rich vocal talent from Thringstone singer Natalie Nightingale.
“It was a wonderful meal and a very special occasion for me,” said the mayor who was accompanied by his wife, Susan, and consort Sue Cross.
With charitable events very much on the mayor’s agenda – a raffle on the night raised £300.
The Lib-Dem councillor, whose year ends on Tuesday, May 14 with a sealed-bid auction night, is cramming in as many fund-raising events as he can into his last few weeks.
